Frequently Asked Questions for Caroline Neilson Counselling

About Counselling Services
How do I know if I need counselling
People seek counselling for various reasons - persistent feelings of sadness or anxiety, difficulty coping with daily tasks, life transitions such as bereavement, or relationship difficulties. You might also consider therapy if you're seeking personal growth or feeling that something just isn't quite right.
What happens in my first counselling session?
In your first session, we will explore what's brought you to therapy and what you would most like help with. I will ask you about your early childhood experiences to ascertain any recurring themes or patterns in your current situation. I will create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can share what feels comfortable, whilst we determine if we are a good fit for working together.
How many sessions will I need?
The duration varies for each person and depends on the presenting issues. Some find relief after a number of short sessions, whilst others benefit from longer term support. Some get to the place of being able to cope better with life and then return again when another life transition occurs.
About My Approach
What does integrative counselling mean?
Integrative therapy means that I don't use a one-size -fits all approach. I integrate a variety of approaches into a psychotherapeutic model including person-centred, Jungian psychology,  psychodynamic and somatic therapies. Therapeutic interventions are personalised and best suited to your unique needs and circumstances.
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling services in Littlehampton can support you with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, stress management, trauma, low self-esteem, and life transitions. Whether you're facing a specific crisis or seeking general emotional wellbeing support, therapy provides a confidential space to explore and heal.
Practical Information
Are our sessions completely confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is fundamental to therapy in West Sussex. As a BACP member, I'm bound by ethical guidelines. Everything we discuss remains private, except in rare circumstances where there are safety concerns for you or others, as required by law.
How much does counselling cost?
My fees for counselling in Littlehampton are £55 per 60-minute session. I operate as a private practice and don't directly bill insurance providers, although I can provide receipts for potential reimbursement. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces at £45 for those experiencing financial difficulties. Opting for fortnightly sessions can also help to reduce costs.
Do you offer online counselling sessions?
Presently, I am not offering online sessions, however I am able to offer telephone counselling.
